Rent Freedom Day
On Wednesday the 4th of February Manchester Generation Rent will be joining fellow renters and campaigners from all over the country in central London for Rent Freedom Day.
Rent Freedom Day is an all-day event where renters and their allies can take action to show MPs and others politicians that in this election year we are no longer willing to sit back and have our issues, our every day lives and experiences, ignored.
There will be political activities - the chance to lobby your MP, to learn how to organise at a local level to help yourself and your neighbours, and to hear where all the main political parties stand on the housing crisis. You will get practical advice on renters’ rights. You will be asked for your input on how renters’ lives can be improved. There will also be some stand-up comedy to enjoy.
The full schedule will give a good idea of wide ranges of initiatives taking place, many of which will have a real impact on the lives of the thousands now renting.
Showing our faces in numbers is important. MPs will find us harder to ignore if we are in front of them, telling them as it is up to us whether they stay in the job or not. Politicians have spent too long not doing enough for renters, Rent Freedom Day is one of the steps we are taking to redress the balance.
Generation Rent is putting on a coach from Manchester, so you won’t have to worry about arranging travel. If you want to travel on the coach please register at the Rent Freedom Day website and once you have done that you can claim a space here.
Travelling to London in numbers will show MPs we are serious about wanting change, but even if you can’t make it you can still get involved by keeping up to date with Generation Rent’s Manchester branch here.
