On June the 24th Labour MP Karen Buck Tabled the first reading of the Homes Fitness for Human Habitation Bill, as part of the Homes Bill 2015-16.
If passed, this bill could dramatically improve the quality of living conditions for the 11 million of us who rent our home.
We need to get our MPs behind this bill so that people in Greater Manchester's rented sector are no longer forced to live in dangerous and substandard homes.
With Right to Buy's extension poised to gobble up the remainder of our truly 'affordable' social housing and the cost of mortgages rocketing out of reach, more of us than ever before will be turning to renting. We need protecting from dangerous and unhealthy homes.
The Homes Fitness For Human Habitation Bill will finally set legal parameters for decent standards.
Please email or Write to your MP and lobby them to support better standards of rented homes, making houses fit for human habitation a legal requirement:
Dear ________ MP,
I am writing today to request your presence in Parliament for the second reading of the private members bill- Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Bill, which completed its first reading in the House of Commons on June the 24th with the second reading scheduled for October, Friday 16th.
Generation Rent have been cross-party campaigning to build up support for the bill and are now in the process of asking MPs to commit to being in Parliament for the second reading.
Can we count on your support for the bill?
We are tabling all initial MP responses on line, and will ask our supporters and renter-constituents to lobby their MPs to be present for the reading.
I look forward to hearing from you.
